This document is the report of a national workshop on Integrated Reef Resources Management in the Maldives. It was held in Malé, Maldives from 16 March to 20 March, 1996. The document contains the recommendations of the workshop, as well as technical papers presented. The workshop was sponsored jointly by the Ministry of Fisheries and Agriculture, Government of Maldives, and the FAO's Bay of Bengal Programme (BOBP). It was attended by 26 delegates from various departments and ministries in the Maldives plus 20 observers and 30 students. Ms. Sana Mohamed was the Technical Secretary. Half a dozen international experts served as resource persons. The Bay of Bengal Programme (BOBP) is a multiagency regional fisheries programme which covers seven countries around the Bay of Bengal -Bangladesh, India, Indonesia, Malayasia, Maldives, Sri Lanka, Thailand. The Programme plays a catalytic and consulative role in developing coastal fisheries management in the Bay of Bengal to help improve the conditions of small-scale fisherfolk in member-countries. The BOBP is sponsored by the governments of Denmark and Japan. The executing agency is the FAO (Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations). |
