Paradoxically, the largest single way in which wood is used is non-industrial -- of all the wood cut in the forests of the world about half is still burned as domestic fuel. The proportion is stead fly decreasing and wood is becoming always more important as an industrial raw material. This has to be reconciled with what has come to be called environmental forestry.
