ANNEX 9

THE WATER SUPPLY PIPES OF THE MARDI BATU BERENDAM FRESHWATER FISH CULTURE STATION

The support of the main water supply pipes from the creek to pump house showed signs of movement by sinking. This threatens the stability of these important pipes which convey water into the experimental pond system. The two pumps being of the centrifugal type, only a slight crack or pinhole in the suction pipes joints will cause air to enter and prevent suction of water hence render the pumps unfunctional. It is therefore suggested that immediate steps be taken to permanently remedy this situation. This will necessitate the use and installation of concrete piles that will provide continued firm and stable support for these pipes. The structural details of this installation is shown in the accompanying Figure 9 a.
