PART V: CLOSING REMARKS

231. Following the adoption of the workshop proceedings and recommendations, the session chairman, the NACA Co-ordinator, the representative of Cambodia, the National Environment Coordinator of the Philippines and the Team Leader, gave concluding statements.

232. Dr P.V. Dehadrai, Deputy Director General of the Indian Council of Agricultural Research and Chairman of the NACA Governing Council, who acted as chairman of the adoption session, thanked the participants for their attendance and noted the excellent results of the study and final workshop. He described the study as another prominent landmark in the continuing regional collaborative effort on aquaculture development and urged the representatives to bring the recommendations to the attention of the concerned authorities in their respective governments and organisations for appropriate follow up action.

233. Dr Banchong Tiensongrusmee, NACA Co-ordinator, reiterated NACA's gratitude to the governments, the National Environment Co-ordinators, and the representatives of the various agencies and organisations for their co-operation and valuable contributions to the workshop. He thanked FAO for funding the project under its Technical Co-operation Programme, and the TCP Team for the successful implementation of the study and the workshop. He hoped that the activity has brought about stronger bonds of trust and friendship among the participants, which he described as the essential elements in successful collaboration.

234. The representative of the Union of Cambodia, H. E. May Sam Oeun, Under-secretary of Agriculture, speaking on behalf of the participating governments thanked FAO and NACA for this particular assistance to governments. Speaking on behalf of the Cambodian Government, he expressed his deep gratitude to all the organisations and governments involved in this particular activity as well as in all related actions that are similarly aimed at helping in the re-birth of Cambodia.

235. The National Environment Co-ordinator (NEC) of the Philippines, Mr. Nelson Lopez, thanked FAO for the excellent assistance of the TCP Team to the NECs in conducting the country studies and developing the country reports and NACA for facilitating the study and the workshop with its effective co-ordinating and supportive actions. He agreed that the results of the project will provide direct benefits to the participating countries and expected that it would be of great value as well to developing countries in the regions.

236. The Team Leader, Mr Ulf Wijkstrom, on behalf of FAO and of himself, thanked the National Environment Co-ordinators and the governments, the other members of the team, the NACA secretariat and FAO RAPA for the various inputs and assistance that they have provided to bring the project to its successful conclusion. He looked forward to concrete follow-up action from governments and further collaboration with FAO in the future in aquaculture development.
