(58) In order to carry out the research programmes mentioned in section 4 of this report manpower, physical facilities and equipment will be needed. Hereunder those facilities are listed; further detailing will be carried out during the actual design phase for the Station.
(59) The manpower requirements for BFRS are provided in the official PP (Project Proforma) of the Fisheries Research Institute; they are summarized in Table 1.

B. | RESEARCH | |
- PSO | 1 | |
- SSO | 5 | |
- SO | 8 | |
- assistant (field-) | 6 | |
TOTAL OFFICERS/STAFF | 66 |
(60) As far as can be foreseen now, the number of scientific officers will be sufficient to start up the research programme described before, but the number of assistants is not at all sufficient. The research work will ask for quite some routine activities (like sampling, analyses, measuring, keeping up of cultures and aquarium experiments), that can be carried out efficiently by laboratory and/or field assistants, whereas for the very simple (but largely needed) jobs such as cleaning of experimental equipment or feeding, attendants are indispensable. It is expected, that a total of 20 assistants and 30 attendants will be needed, against a PP-provision of only 6 assistants and 6 attendants (fishermen). Moreover, 6 farm guards will have to be added to the PP-provision.
(61) For the research programme itself the physical facilities that are expected to be needed are listed in Table 2. According to the PP 25,400 m2 are estimated to be required for the “laboratory building”, which is supposed to include all indoor research facilities.

(62) Next to the research needs of Table 2, physical facilities are needed for administration, support services, and residential purposes. The demands are presented in Table 3. According to the PP, 6,078 m2 are estimated to be needed for the administrative building.
(63) In the PP, provision is made for a total area of approximately 50 acres of land for development of BFRS. The proposed general use pattern of this land is presented in Table 4.

(64) Table 5 presents a list of equipment needed for the administration and the research programme of BFRS. The list combines the needs for the projects identified under section 4 of this report. Detailed specifications and prices will be presented by the shrimp specialist (eventually in co-operation with other members of the technical assistance team) at the moment of the start of construction of the Station: equipment development proceeds quickly and prices are very much subject to currency-rates. Most of the items can be imported through the Bangladesh Scientific and Surgical Instruments Co., Khan Mansion, 107, Motijheel Commercial Area, Dhaka-2.
