4. RECOMMENDATIONS

At present WAPDA is giving priority to the implementation of the Mangla complex. However, the other two should not be neglected.

At Hub, there is still no hatchery and until it is completed, fisheries development at the reservoir cannot be achieved.

At Tarbela, the location of the existing unit is very unfavourable; this accentuated the need for a new, better-sited hatchery-nursery unit.

The present state of the designs, while correct in outline is incomplete as there is some further information to be obtained. In particular, soil and land surveys should be completed before the final designs of the pond components are detailed. The present drawings however give ample guidelines for this work.

In addition to the construction of the new systems, the existing ones should be improved to make full use of their considerable production potential.

The capacity of the hatchery component, as defined, is sufficient to provide a surplus of first feeding larvae for sale to local farmers.

In the longer term, the units may be considered as local centres for fish seed production. As operational techniques improve, the output of the units may increase considerably.
