Investigate the effect of herbicide Ametryn regularly applied to Lake Edku, on the phytoplankton;
Recommend to the Ministry of Irrigation to alter the time of application for aerial spraying at Lake Edku to May/June, with the aim of improving the results of spraying;
Purchase and outfit a spray boat to control water hyacinth in the Edku drains and access channels (for estimated costs see Appendix 2).
Use a portable herbicide spray unit, with ancillary equipment for the control of water hyacinth and Phragmites in key parts of the Lake Edku and Barsik Fish Farm;
Establish a research programme to determine and monitor the levels of pesticides and chemical pollutants in the sediments, vertebrates and invertebrates of Lake Edku;
No action is recommended to bring about the utilization on a large scale of aquatic plants in Lake Edku and Barsik Fish Farm.
