The project has completed a land and water use data base for shrimp farming and cage culture development in Johor State. Six fishery officers have been trained in GIS applications and analyses and are competent to continue with the work in other states.
The information on opportunities for the development of semi-intensive shrimp farming in ponds is more comprehensive in terms of criteria considered and in greater detail than any previous investigation. Likewise, the results are more reliable. Because the results are synoptic, better planning for aquaculture development is possible. All of the state has been investigated at one time and all of the sites have been evaluated according to the same well-defined criteria.
