288. At its Forty-Second Session held immediately after the Twelfth Session of the Conference, the Council appointed a Chairman and an Alternate Chairman for the Appeals Committee. The Verbatim Records of the session show that the Chairman of the Council made it clear that appointment was for two years. This term of office, however, did not appear clearly in the report of the Council Session, and the official letter to the Ambassadors who had been appointed set the term of office for one year only. The Council confirmed that it had been its intention to make the appointments for two years and requested the Director-General to communicate officially with the Ambassadors renewing the appointment for one year.
