    Presentations by representatives of the six FAO Regional Forestry Commissions (RFCs) with informal discussion about the role of RFCs as a venue for forest policy dialogue and for translating policies into action at the national level.

09.30 - 11.00 Item 5 Regional Forestry Commissions in Action (document COFO 2005/2)
    Panel discussion with the Chairs of the six FAO Regional Forestry Commissions (RFCs) who will review regional issues of importance to COFO and the role of RFCs in implementing sustainable forest management, including a report from the discussion at the side event held on Tuesday 15 March afternoon.
11.00 - 12.30 Item 6 Needs and Opportunities for International Cooperation in Forest Fire Preparedness (documents COFO 2005/3 and COFO 2005/Inf.10)
    Based on the outcome of the Ministerial Meeting and the discussion during the side event on 15 March, delegates will have an opportunity to recommend concrete steps to improve international cooperation on forest fire.

    Following several presentations on progress and barriers to the implementation of sustainable forest management at the national level, delegates and observers will be encouraged to engage in an informal dialogue.

09.30 - 11.00 Item 7 The Role of Forests in Contributing to the Millennium Development Goals (document COFO 2005/4)
    Forests can play an important role in achieving the Millennium Development Goals in many countries. This agenda item provides an opportunity to make specific recommendations for actions to be taken by FAO and by member countries.
11.00 - 12.30 Item 9 Shaping an Action Programme for FAO in Forestry (documents COFO 2005/6; COFO 2005/7; COFO 2005/8; COFO 2005/Inf.9; COFO 2005/Inf.11; and COFO 2005/Inf.12)
    The FAO Secretariat will make brief presentations on the major accomplishments in Forestry since the previous session of COFO, and the priorities proposed for FAO in the next biennium and in the Medium Term Plan 2006 – 2011. Delegates are invited to provide guidance to FAO with respect to programme priorities in Forestry.
