Memorandum of Understanding between FAO and the Asian Development Bank 1

97. The Council noted with satisfaction that cooperation between FAO and the Asian Development Bank had increased and that the Memorandum of Agreement which had entered into force in 1968 had been re-negotiated with a view to bringing arrangements for cooperation up to date and, in particular, to harmonize the cost-sharing formula with the one contained in agreements with other financing institutions.

98. The Council further noted that the Programme Committee 2 and the Finance Committee 3 had recommended that the Council agree that the 1968 Memorandum of Agreement, which it had approved at its Forty-ninth Session 4, be terminated by mutual consent. In this connection the Council was informed that the Board of Directors of the Asian Development Bank had recently agreed to the 1968 Memorandum of Agreement being terminated and had authorized the President to sign the new Memorandum.

99. The Council endorsed the recommendation of the Programme Committee and the Finance Committee and welcomed the fact that the Director-General would consequently be in a position to sign the new Memorandum of Understanding.
