The Council noted that Mexico, the host country for the Ninth World Forestry Congress, reaffirmed its commitment to hold the Congress and was now making every effort to expedite organizational arrangements. The technical assistance of FAO had been requested for the setting up of the Congress Secretariat and efforts would be made to meet the original target date of October 1984. However, in view of the need to ensure adequate preparations for a successful Congress, Mexico notified the Council that the timing of the Congress may have to be deferred to the first half of 1985.
275. The Council decided that its Eighty—fourth Session should be convened in Rome from 1 to 3 November 1983.
