1. The Eighty-fifth Session of the Council was held in Rome on 24 November 1983, under the Chairmanship of Dr. M.S. Swaminathan.
2. The Agenda of the Session was adopted unanimously as presented, and is set out in Appendix A to this Report.
3. The Council elected three Vice-Chairmen for its session: S. Okwakol (Uganda), A. Abdel-Malek (Lebanon), E.J. Stonyer (New Zealand).
4. The Council noted that Almamy Sylla, Secretary-General of the Conference and Council and Assistant Director-General, Department of General Affairs and Information, would be retiring from the Organization in December 1983 after over five years service. In paying tribute to him, the Council recorded its deep appreciation for his efficiency, competence and dedication and wished him much success and happiness in the next phase of his career.
