The Council agreed that its Hundred and Twelfth Session should be convened in Rome in June 1997. The exact dates would be decided by the Director-General in consultation with the Independent Chairman of the Council, taking into account the discussion held by the Council concerning length of meetings.
The Council was informed of the vacant positions among the Members and Alternate Members representing the Conference on the FAO Staff Pension Committee. Given the authority to make replacements to the Committee by the Eighth Session of the Conference, the Council
appointed for the period 1 January 1997 - 31 December 1998, Mr Ewald Brouwers, Alternate Permanent Representative of the Kingdom of Netherlands to FAO, as Member and Mr Salah Soukkar, Alternate Permanent Representative of Syria to FAO, as Alternate Member of the FAO Staff Pension Committee; and
appointed for the period 1 January 1997 - 31 December 1999 Mr Jean-Louis Rysto, Alternate Permanent Representative of France to FAO, as Alternate Member of the Committee.
In accordance with Staff Regulation 301.111, the Council appointed H.E. Juan Cassiers, Ambassador of Belgium to the Holy See, as the Second Alternate Chairman of the FAO Appeals Committee.
The Council took note of the statement made by the Representative of Turkey regarding preparations to date for the Eleventh World Forestry Congress (Antalya, 13-22 October 1997). The Council thanked Turkey for its considerable efforts to provide a substantial programme of meetings and field trips, as well as the necessary facilities to help to ensure the success of the Congress.
