CHAIRMAN: Good morning and welcome to you all. Yesterday we had a very exciting discussion dealing with food for the souls of delegates. Today we are dealing with a much more serious subject in many ways, the areas of feeding people, the malnourished and hungry.

Our agenda this morning deals with two areas of special importance to this Organization. One of them is nutrition. As you all know, nutrition is one of the mainstays of this Organization. When this Organization was set up nutrition stood in front, the concern was in terms of making sure that everybody had enough to eat, not only to survive but to grow up healthy. I hope that this morning from our discussion we will be able to report that we as delegates of the Council are not only fully conscious of the importance of the subject, but that we are able to provide the impetus that is necessary not only to maintain but to increase our tempo in making progress on these problems of malnourishment, undernourishment and severe cases of starvation.

I will ask Dr. Islam to open the discussion, to review briefly and to indicate the highlights of what we are to discuss this morning under the item of "Nutrition". I understand that he will also deal with item 10.1 and item 10.2 in his introduction.
