A. J. PECKHAM (United Kingdom): As we are making such good progress could I make a point on the Resolution on Nutrition? It occurs to me, reading the two operative paragraphs, that the first one expressed concern about the nutritional status of the rural and urban poor. Clearly, we all support that. But paragraph 2a asks the Director-General to review the impact on the nutritional status of population groups. I have a feeling that "population groups" is a term used by statisticians. It is something I do not really understand. I wonder if it might be worth making the two paragraphs consistent by referring in both cases to the rural and urban poor. If that thought were followed it would simply mean changing the words "population groups" to the words "the rural and urban poor" in paragraph 2a.
CHAIRMAN: I see no objection. The proposal made by the United Kingdom is accepted. If there are no other comments I take it that paragraphs 26 - 28 are adopted.

Je voudrais tout d'abord signaler une petite erreur dans la note en bas de la page. Il ne s'agit pas de l'appui, mais de la présentation par les pays mentionnés. Il paraît donc nécessaire de remplacer le mot "soutenue" par le mot "présentée par l'Argentine, l'Inde, le Pérou, la Roumanie et la Yougoslavie".
En second lieu, nous avons formulé, dans les débats de la deuxième Commission, le souhait que l'on mentionne dans le rapport de la Conférence le fait que la Roumanie est prête à appuyer l'une des deux réunions dont il s'agit dans la résolution.
Nous proposons donc d'inclure une deuxième note en bas de page, pour que le premier alinéa du paragraphe 52 reflète cet esprit.
Avec votre permission, je voudrais formuler un texte à ce propos dont le contenu est le suivant: "La Conférence a pris note du fait que la Roumanie est prête à app'uyer l'une des réunions dont il est fait mention dans cette résolution".

CHAIRMAN: Further to the results of this morning's meeting, we have to vote again for the Latin America and European Regions for the period 1977 - 31st December 1980 in order to elect the remaining members in each of these two regions.
Ballot papers will be distributed, one for Latin America with two candidates, Cuba and El Salvador, with one seat to be filled; and one for Europe with two candidates, Malta and Portugal, with one vacancy to be filled. In order to save time we would like to suggest they proceed simultaneously with the election of the members of the Council for the period January, 1979 to November 1981 for the following regions: Asia and Far East, where we have four candidates for the three seats; the Near East, where we also have four candidates for the three seats to be filled; and Southwest Pacific, where there is one candidate for one seat.
If you agree, distinguished delegates, we can proceed as suggested, and we will then distribute five ballot papers. I see no objection, so we can proceed with the voting with five ballot papers.
N. A. ODARTEY-WELLINGTON (Chana): I want to find out whether the African Region has been left out intentionally or whether it is just an omission. This is in the voting for the period 1977 until 31st December, 1981.

Au cours de la réunion d'hier en séance plénière, l'observateur du front patriotique du Zimbabwe a fait une déclaration relative à la situation au Mozambique. Dans cette déclaration, il a affirmé que la France et la Grande-Bretagne ont armé jusqu'aux dents le régime de Ian Smith. Je suis en mesure de déclarer, aux fins d'inscription au procès-verbal, que la France, appliquant les sanctions édictées par le Conseil de Sécurité, n'a jamais fourni aucun armement au régime de M. Ian Smith et n'entend ne lui en fournir aucun à l'avenir.
