Guidelines promote restoration of the world’s drylands

New document captures, evaluates and shares knowledge gained in dryland restoration initiatives

Over forty percent of the world’s land cover consists of drylands, home to around two billion people. Between 10-20% are estimated to be degraded. In an effort to promote drylands restoration, FAO and partners have drawn up the Global guidelines for the restoration of degraded forests and landscapes in drylands, capturing, evaluating and sharing knowledge gained in dryland restoration initiatives. The main elements are now presented in FAO’s international journal on forestry Unasylva, issue 245.
