THE INTERNATIONAL PLATFORM FOR DIGITAL FOOD AND AGRICULTURERecognizing the importance of digitalization in food and agriculture, the International Platform for Digital Food and Agriculture will aim to provide a voluntary and inclusive multi-stakeholder mechanism to facilitate dialogue on how to strengthen the potential of digital technology applications on food and agriculture and how to address the related challenges.
The initiative – requested by the 12th Berlin Agriculture Ministers' Conference on the occasion of the Global Forum for Food and Agriculture in January 2020, and endorsed by the FAO Council last July – will add to UN-wide efforts on digital cooperation engaging governments, farmers, agro-business and the private sector, the civil and knowledge societies and international organizations in discussions to promote coordination and consensus.
Against this backdrop, the High-level Dialogue will provide a setting to discuss vital issues, including the specific challenges and risks faced in food and agriculture in the context of digitalization and the opportunities to embed these challenges into discussions on the appropriate international fora mandated for the digital economy.
