10 best bet innovations for adaptation in agriculture

CGIAR scientists have presented a report with 10 innovations for climate action in agriculture. The publication aims to support developing countries to develop locally tailored adaptation strategies that will contribute to the achievement of SDGs. This report comes as the world leaders meet for the UNFCCC Climate Change Conference in Bonn, Germany, where it was launched.

Brief overview of the innovations

Agriculture needs to produce 60% more food by 2050 to feed the growing world population yet agriculture also contributes 19-29% of global man-made greenhouse gas emissions and these need to be reduced by 20130 in order to achieve the global goal of limiting warming to 2 degrees Celsius (CGIAR).

As part of the Paris Climate Agreement, 138 countries included adaptation in their Intended Nationally Determined Contributions (INDCs) and indicated agriculture as a priority. Therefore, this publication aims to support countries in fulfilling their commitments. The publication is part of the UNFCCC National Adaptation Planning (NAP) Technical Guidelines, and it includes descriptions of the following innovations,
