Global Forest Watch - Monitoring forests in near real time

Global Forest Watch (GFW) is an interactive online forest monitoring and alert system designed for users to access the information they need to better manage and conserve forest landscapes.

The mission of the Global Forest Watch is to provide the most precise information about the status of forest landscapes worldwide. GFW works in collaboration with NASAGoogle and the University of Maryland to collect data on forest change which is displayed on an interactive map.

GFW is free and enables users to work with a wide variety of tools, such as creating custom maps, analyzing forest trends, subscribing to alerts, or downloading data for a selected area. Users can also monitor forest fires, control protected areas and receive near-real-time alerts showing suspected locations of recent tree cover loss.

GFW also provides crowdsourcing tools, blogs, and discussion groups so that users can contribute by sharing data and stories from the ground. The audience that GFW targets includes governments, private sector, NGOs, journalists, universities, and the general public.
