Q4. What specific interventions/programmes (hackathons, bootcamps, etc) have been implemented by government or the private sector to enhance digital skills and innovative capacities especially of the youth in rural areas in a particular country? Please share links to reference materials  where possible.

The joint team of animators from the Food and Agriculture Organization and the International Telecommunication Union welcome you to this important e-consultation where we solicit your inputs on specific key questions of interest pertaining to digital agriculture investments and digital transformation in Sub-Saharan Africa.

The consultation will last for 3 weeks with each week dedicated to specific question(s). We appreciate your commitment to this task even in these difficult times whilst we work collectively to end global hunger. In this e-consultation, we expect to engage with participants in both English and French. 

With cue from earlier consultations on this platform, we implore participants to be clear in their submission and include facts and figures as well as reference materials where available. We encourage participants to draw the attention of other stakeholders they think can contribute substantively to the discussion but are not registered on this platform to this on-going exercise. 

We appreciate your availability and commitment to the task and look forward to a healthy consultative process

L'équipe conjointe d'animateurs de l'Organisation des Nations Unies pour l'alimentation et l'agriculture et de l'Union internationale des télécommunications vous souhaite la bienvenue à cette importante consultation en ligne où nous sollicitons vos contributions sur des questions clés spécifiques d'intérêt relatives aux investissements dans l'agriculture numérique et à la transformation numérique en Afrique subsaharienne.

La consultation durera 3 semaines, chaque semaine étant consacrée à des questions spécifiques. Nous apprécions votre engagement dans cette tâche même en ces temps difficiles alors que nous travaillons collectivement pour mettre fin à la faim dans le monde. Dans cette consultation en ligne, nous prévoyons de dialoguer avec les participants en anglais et en français.

À la lumière des consultations précédentes sur cette plateforme, nous implorons les participants d'être clairs dans leur soumission et d'inclure des faits et des chiffres ainsi que des documents de référence, le cas échéant. Nous encourageons les participants à attirer l'attention d'autres parties prenantes qui, selon eux, peuvent contribuer de manière substantielle à la discussion mais ne sont pas inscrites sur cette plate-forme pour cet exercice en cours.

Uganda Development Bank, in partnership with the Resilient Africa Network (RAN Lab), organized an annual innovation program iGrowth Accelerator whose focus is to support the commercialization of local start-ups and to stimulate a culture of innovation in Uganda in a bid to contribute to the country's socio-economic development. Bank at Hause - Factor Xchange innovation of At Hause Limited was among the winning projects whose team identified poor packaging of agricultural produce as one of the major challenges in the agricultural sector. They, therefore, came up with their project- a solution that uses 3 ply bags to keep produce for longer periods and enable the producer to earn better. The team further works to increase incomes by linking farms to wholesalers with increased access to markets in Africa, Dubai, and the Gulf Cooperation Council region.

As part of efforts to promote and showcase youth innovations in enterprise development and business incubation, the World Bank Group in partnership with the Ministry of Agriculture, Animal Industry and Fisheries (MAAIF), and the Korea World Bank Partnership Facility (KWPF) organized a Disruptive Agriculture Technology Challenge Expo in Kampala Uganda last year 2019. A limited number of startups or businesses were required, there is a need to include more businesses with the potential to attract investment in a broad range of focus areas including innovations in Agriculture productivity, Market Linkages, Farmer Financial Inclusion, energy, Data analytics, and intelligence among others. 

Mastercard Foundation also developed a new strategy, Young Africa Works. It builds on the result of extensive consultation with leaders of African governments, private sector organizations, educational institutions, civil society, and, most importantly, young people themselves. Using youth employment as an indicator of progress, this strategy will help millions of Africans find a pathway out of poverty for themselves and their families.

Ici au Rwanda nous avont plusieur programes specifier pour le jeunes comme le BDF (Business development funds), qui finance le s entreprises de jeunes au commencement. Le BDF donnee le credit au 75%, de budget et autre 25% aux honneur de l'entrepirise. Le business development funds aussi operee comme guarantee au entreprises de jeunes et les autres.

La société Innovazing Vision a signé un contrat de partenariat avec le programme TAVAIL ETUDES de la faculté des sciences agronomiques et de la biodiversité de l'ULPGL/BUTEMBO, programme qui encadre les jeunes venant des familles pauvres qui n’ont pas d’accès aux études. L’université a déjà identifié 20 jeunes qui travaillent dans les activités agropastorales et les résultats de ces activités permettent le paiement des frais à l’université. Ce projet d’octroi des porcelets pour rembourser deux porcelets à la mise bas sera un appui remarquable pour l’atteinte des objectifs d’encadrement des jeunes par l’ULPGL de Butembo.
