About 70 officers from Nigeria’s various ministries will attend the workshop supported by FAO: Long-term perspectives and policies for sustainable development. The FAO team and participants will identify selected policy options relevant for the implementation of the Economic Transformation Agenda, fine-tuning of the CAADP National Agricultural Investment Plan (NAIP) and other national policy frameworks. They will also share knowledge on current and emerging issues regarding sustainable and inclusive development in Nigeria and will deepen their understanding of analytical tools for evidence-based policy making.
Request for assistance
Following Nigeria’s participation in FAO’s High-Level Policy Learning Programme 2011: Addressing long-term development challenges: from short-lived interventions to lasting achievements and envisaged in the follow up Country Action Plan, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, Nigeria, requested FAO to set up a project for policy assistance to support the Government in the implementation of the Economic Transformation Agenda and to achieve the Nigeria Vision 20:2020 through appropriate policy analysis and formulation.
Consequently, project TCP/NIR/3402 was tailor made along the lines of the existing FAO UPPI programme Sustainable development, food security and inclusive growth: understanding paradigms and exploring policy impacts for policy making , which frames policy assistance activities and “bottom up” (country-based) policy relevant knowledge generation. Within this context, TCP/NIR/3402 aims at preparing evidence-based policy products, to increase country-level policy intelligence and develop analytical capacities of relevant policy units, with the goal to help the Government of Nigeria achieve sustainable development and inclusive growth.
