The Committee on World Food Security (CFS) is the UN Governing Body that reviews and follows up on food security and nutrition policies. CFS is the foremost inclusive international and intergovernmental platform for all stakeholders to work together to ensure food security and nutrition for all. The Committee reports annually to the Economic and Social Council of the United Nations (ECOSOC).
Using a multi-stakeholder, consultative approach, CFS endorses policy recommendations and guidelines on a wide range of food security and nutrition topics. Policy recommendations are based on scientific and evidence based reports produced by the High Level Panel of Experts on Food Security and Nutrition (HLPE) and through work supported technically by The Food and Agricultural Organization (FAO), The International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) and the World Food Programme (WFP). Responsible investment in agriculture and food systems is essential for enhancing food security and nutrition and supporting the progressive realization of the right to adequate food in the context of national food security. Responsible investment makes a significant contribution to enhancing sustainable livelihoods, in particular for smallholders, and members of marginalized and vulnerable groups, creating decent work for all agricultural and food workers, eradicating poverty, fostering social and gender equality, eliminating the worst forms of child labour, promoting social participation and inclusiveness, increasing economic growth, and therefore achieving sustainable development.
