Fourth Wye City Conference

The Wye City Group on Rural Statistics and Agricultural Household Income is hosting its fourth global conference on agricultural and rural household statistics 9-11 November 2011 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The conference will be hosted by the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE) and is co-organized by the Food and Agricultural Organization of the United Nations.

The fourth meeting of the Group will focus on issues related to the revision of the handbook Rural Households' Livelihood and Well-being: Statistics on Rural Development and Agriculture Household Income. In particular, sessions will cover emerging issues in a changing rural world and related data needs at different levels of development.

Each session will include a Session Organizer and Chair, and a number of discussion papers. The papers might focus on matters such as sustainable agricultural and rural development; measures of well-being beyond income; climate change and agriculture for mitigation policies gender-disaggregated rural statistics and rural employment; reconciling data; and relationship between households and farms.

Objectives
- Review and discuss revisions to the Wye Group Handbook on Rural Households’ Livelihood and Well-Being, as well as present the electronic version of the Handbook and its new structure on three levels (Core Text, Focus Pieces and Extended References).
- Additionally, to support the Global Strategy to Improve Agricultural and Rural Statistics by highlighting practical measures to support the implementation of the three pillars of the Strategy, international needs and opportunities to improve statistics on rural and farm households, and strengthen the process of collecting and disseminating statistics on rural and farm households in OECD and developing countries (such as in Latin America).
- Discuss the future of the Wye Group considering the Global Strategy implementation.
