About us

FAO statistics collates and disseminates food and agricultural statistics globally. The division develops methodologies and standards for data collection, and holds regular meetings and workshops to support member countries develop statistical systems. We produce publications, working papers and statistical yearbooks that cover food security, prices, production and trade and agri-environmental statistics.

Our Vision
In contributing to a world free from hunger and malnutrition, the Statistics Division of FAO serves as the foremost authoritative source of standards and methods as well as timely and reliable data on hunger, food and agriculture.

Corporate statistical database
One of the main activities of FAO statistics is maintaining the corporate statistical database, FAOSTAT. Time series statistical information is compiled, processed and stored by country from 1961. It contains time-series records from over 245 countries and territories covering domains on agriculture (production, consumption, trade, prices and resources), nutrition, fisheries, forestry, food aid, land use and population. It is currently the world’s largest and most comprehensive statistical database on food and agriculture. » visit FAOSTAT

Capacity development
Ongoing training and project technical assistance projects develop the capacity of national statistical offices and departments responsible for agricultural data collection.

Ensuring harmonization of national data and metadata collections for analysis and policy making is supported by CountrySTAT, an integrated national food and agriculture statistical information system. » read more
