Description
Announced it aims to be fully self-sufficient in rice by 2018, when paddy production is targeted to reach 1.2 million tonnes, which would imply a 20 percent annual production growth rate over the coming years. In addition to ongoing support programs, the strategy envisages efforts to boost production and distribution of improved seeds, the rehabilitation and expansion of irrigation systems, as well as the development of water harvesting structures, among others.
