Description
Launched the Agricultural Sector Policy Roadmap ("Green Alternative"), setting out food security, import substitution, job creation and economic diversification as its 20162020 policy priorities. For the purpose, it would seek to promote productivity improvements, private sector investment in agriculture, while pursuing institutional strengthening and realignment, in partnership with state-level authorities. Initial focus would be given to improving food security by expanding production of rice, wheat, maize, soybeans and tomatoes, while also promoting exports of cocoa, cassava, oil palm, sesame and gum Arabic.
