Description
Announced that it aimed to reduce area planted to paddy by 35 000 hectares in 2017 and by another 33 000 hectares in 2018. The measure seeks to balance rice production with domestic needs by 2019 and would come in addition to increased food aid deliveries and efforts to encourage greater industrial uses of rice.
