Description
Set aside BDT 45.5 billion (USD 556 million) to provide food subsidies during the 2017/2018 fiscal year (July-June), up from a revised budget of BDT 37.2 billion (USD 455 million) for the previous year. The foodgrain distribution target was set at 2.74 million tonnes, up 16 percent from a revised target for the previous year. Of this volume, 2.16 million tonnes would be in the form of rice, compared to 1.86 million tonnes in 2016/2017. In addition, under a revised Value Added Tax regime, exemptions would continue for local rice along with other basic foodstuffs and be extended to imported rice.
