Self-sufficiency plan

Development strategy for rice approved by Parliament. The document envisages the country attaining self-sufficiency in rice by 2016, replacing an earlier target of 2013. Interventions foreseen to achieve the goal will include capacity development, introduction of high yielding varieties, promotion of mechanization and improved farm management.
