Description
Agreed to set up a tripartite working group, between Indonesia, the Philippines and Malaysia, tasked with addressing Philippine concerns over alleged smuggling and dumping of palm oil into the country – a move aimed at averting the introduction of formal import barriers by the Philippines.
Notes
After considering to introduce temporary import restrictions for palm oil, the Philippine Government has agreed to set up a technical working group with Malaysian and Indonesian counterparts to address its concerns over the alleged smuggling and dumping of palm oil and its adverse effects on the domestic coconut and oil palm industry. Reportedly, the profitability of domestic copra production has been hurt severely following steep falls in local oils/fats prices.
