On International Women’s Day, the three Rome-based agencies hosted a roundtable debate on closing the gender gap in agriculture. An international panel of experts debated the costs of gender inequality for agricultural productivity, poverty and hunger and discussed appropriate action to be taken.

A new approach to technical capacity development, based on an exposure and dialogue methodology, is being piloted by FAO's Gender, Equity and Rural Employment Division. FAO has implemented partnerships with host organizations, such as the Self-Employed Women’s Organization of India (SEWA) to better understand the challenges that poor food insecure people face, and allow rural populations to directly express their needs.
