Nutrition in emergencies

FAO gives high priority to early warning, nutrition assistance in emergency situations, and improved preparedness through sustainable food security policies.

More attention is being given to incorporating nutrition into emergency responses, particularly in the briefing and backstopping of assessment and planning missions.

Natural disasters and complex emergencies can have significant effects on household food security and nutrition.

Assessing impact and understanding coping mechanisms of groups allows the design and implementation of strategies which protect and promote household food security and nutrition throughout relief and rehabilitation responses.

Activities aim to strengthen government and local institutions' capacity and to improve collaboration among organizations dealing with nutrition.
