Objective:

To improve agricultural production and food availability of small-scale farmer families affected by Tropical Storm Agatha, by restoring their agricultural production capacity.

Key partners:

Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Food (MAGA).

Beneficiaries reached:

3 336 farm families engaged in agricultural production, living in poverty and extreme poverty in areas affected by the effects of Tropical Storm Agatha in the southern and western regions of the country.

Activities implemented:
  • Carried out a hydraulic evaluation on the field.
  • Procured and distributed necessary inputs to restore the production of maize grain.
  • Procured and distributed necessary inputs to rehabilitate irrigation systems.
  • Rehabilitated 60 small-scale irrigation systems.
  • Trained volunteer promoters and project participants.
Impact:
  • Restored vegetable production after the tropical storm, and increased yields compared to previous years.
  • Increased good quality water availability and diversified crop production.
  • Introduced good agricultural practices.
  • Trained beneficiary families.
