Objective:
To restore the crop production and food security of the most vulnerable farmers and fishers households in cyclone-affected areas and to rebuild their livelihoods in a sustainable manner.
Key partners:
Ministry of Agriculture, Welthungerhilfe, Groupe de recherches et d’échanges technologiques, Lokha Alinn, Triangle, Save the Children, Mercy Corps, Agence d’aide à la Coopération Technique et au Développement, OXFAM, Ever Green Group, Mingalar Myanmar, and Mangrove Service Network.
Beneficiaries reached:
9 862 households.
Activities implemented:
- Distributed crop kits consisting of seeds and fertilizer to 4 566 of the most vulnerable small to medium-scale farming households.
- Provided subsistence fishing gear, including nets, lines and traps, to 4 826 fishing households.
- Provided new 12 or 18 foot-long multi-purpose boats to 400 households.
- Provided fish restocking packages or mangrove species nurseries to 70 aquaculture households.
Impact:
- Farming households were able to produce USD 1 612 800 worth of crops on 1200 ha of land, including at least a six-month supply of rice for each household.
- Average beneficiary household was able to catch approximately 100 kg of fish per year.
- The households that received boats were using them regularly and productively for both fishing and transportation purposes.
