Objective:

To enhance the food security and contribute to the restoration of sustainable livelihoods of selected internally displaced households in urban areas as well as rural communities at risk of displacement in the Chocó Department.

Key partners:

Ministry of Agriculture of the Chocó Department, municipal governments and the Government of Quibdo.

Beneficiaries reached:

3 813 households (or 19 065 individuals).

Activities implemented:
  •  Conducting an assessment of livelihoods, food consumption and food availability in the targeted municipalities for the project baseline.
  •  Promoting the project amongst beneficiaries and local governments through community dialogue and information dissemination.
  •  Providing and distributing packages to participant households that included a toolkit, topsoil, wood, canvas netting and horticultural and staple crop seeds.
  •  Establishing Training Centres to support the rehabilitation and improvement of various farming practices.
  •  Training beneficiaries on various agricultural techniques including hydroponics and organoponics.
  •  Providing technical support and recommendations at the household level for increased crop production, adequate consumption and seed recovery.
Impact:
  •  Increased access to 314 tonnes of horticultural products and the production of 1 080 tonnes of staple crops reinforcing food accessibility.
  •  Strengthened cooperation amongst communities and participant households through dialogue and exchange owing to the establishment of the Training Centres.
  •  Improved food availability and variety providing a balanced diet for participant households.
