Objective:
To improve the food security of disaster-affected households and develop a pilot system for risk reduction and response to agricultural disasters.
Key partners:
National Defense and Agriculture Ministries, municipal governments and the governments of Santa Cruz y la Paz.
Beneficiaries reached:
6 299 households.
Activities implemented:
- Distributed 813 464 kg of potato seed, 45 540 broadbean seed, 19 600 kg of maize seed as well as fertilizers.
- Organized training workshops on the correct use of the distributed inputs.
- Designed the agricultural risk management system and approved by the local authorities.
Impact:
- Planted approximately 776 ha of potatoes, 182 ha of broadbeans and 852 ha of maize.
- Harvest an estimated 6 780 549 kg of potatoes, 546 480 kg of beans and 2 045 217 kg of maize.
- Increased food availability, improving consumption, sale and better quality seeds.
- Provided higher returns through generating income from the sale of surplus production.
- Facilitated mapping, through the risk management system, increasing management of agricultural risks and disasters (including the prevention and increased preparedness for agriculture-related risk management).
