Objective:

Contribute to improved food security and nutrition of drought-affected smallholder farmers and agropastoral communities through emergency seed interventions and capacity building on improved crop and animal feed production.

Key partners:

Ministry of Agriculture and Natural Resources, Afar Regional State Pastoral Agriculture Development Bureau, Amhara National Regional State Bureau of Agriculture, Oromia Bureau of Agriculture, Southern Nation and Nationalities and Peoples Region Bureau of Agriculture and Natural Resources, Tigray National Regional State Bureau of Agriculture and Rural Development.

Beneficiaries reached:

58 347 households in five regions.

Activities implemented:
  • Sensitized beneficiary regions on project intervention and beneficiary selection.
  • Organized and conducted awareness creation and project launching workshops for stakeholders.
  • Procured and supplied 9 014.9 quintals of cereal, legume and vegetable seed to 46 251 households.
  • Procured and supplied 21 685 kg of forage seed to 9 763 households.
  • Procured and supplied 2 400 quintals of concentrated animal feed and 40 000 cuttings to 2 333 households.
  • Trained 69 experts in crop and feed production.
  • Trained 882 farmers and agropastoralists in a variety of agronomic practices and seed handling.
Impact:
  • Contributed to improved nutrition in 58 347 households.
  • Contributed to beneficiaries’ longer-term livelihood resilience, with the selling of productive assets avoided.
  • Contributed to the improved nutrition for 52 666 animals in 12 096 households.
