Objective:

To restore the agricultural capacity of El Niño affected communities and make them more resilient to future climate shocks.

Key partners:

The Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security.

Beneficiaries reached:

21 296 households.

Activities implemented:
  • Identified and sensitized project beneficiaries.
  • Procured and distributed farmer households with seed kits containing 219 tonnes of cereals and 59 tonnes of legumes.
  • Trained 1 006 households in conservation agriculture techniques.
  • Provided 1 340 households with conservation agriculture kits composed of manual planters, sprayers, agriculture protection material and basic seeds for multiplication.
  • Trained 340 households on seed multiplication and quality control.
  • Conducted training of trainer workshops on conservation agriculture, seed multiplication, post-harvest techniques and quality control, benefiting 42 extension workers and national technicians.
Impact:
  • Enabled the planting of approximately 11 333 ha of land with cowpea, maize and sorghum.
  • Enhanced farmers’ access to inputs and their production levels with an estimated total production of 14 367 tonnes of grains.
  • Enhanced the technical capacities of farmers to effectively utilise the inputs received.
  • Supported the establishment of 340 seed multiplication plots.
  • Restored the agricultural production capacity and livelihoods of farmers in the target districts.
  • Increased the resilience of farmers to future climate shocks through the application of seed multiplication and conservation agriculture farming methods.
