Partners

Emergency-related work in FAO builds on the skills, experience and competencies of a wide range of partners.

Within FAO

Emergency work is implemented by the Emergency Operations and Rehabilitation Division, supported by technical divisions.

Emergency prevention and mitigation projects are by FAO Representations, and relies on the expertise of FAO’s  technical divisions, especially:

  • Animal Production and Health
  • Nutrition and Consumer Protection
  • Forest Management
  • Fishery and Aquaculture
  • Food Security Analysis
  • Land and Water Development
  • Climate Change and Bioenergy
  • Agricultural Development Economics
  • Agriculture Policy Support
Working with Governments

FAO helps countries integrate disaster risk-reduction practices into agriculture, livestock, fisheries and forestry sectors. It also helps governments coordinate agricultural relief, rehabilitation and recovery programmes.

Interagency collaboration

FAO is member of several interagency groups that bring together a range of development and humanitarian partners. For example:

  • secretariat for Food Insecurity and Vulnerability Information and Mapping Systems (FIVIMS) Initiative, which it hosts
  • Inter-Agency Task Force for Disaster Reduction
  • Inter-Agency Standing Committee for strengthened coordination on disaster risk reduction and for humanitarian assistance
  • Food Insecurity and Vulnerability Informative and Mapping Systems (FIVIMS) Initiative
Working with financing institutions, donors and NGOs

FAO works with other UN agencies and with financing institutions on areas including:

  • preparing early warning
  • assessing food and agricultural relief needs
  • mobilizing funds
  • coordinating rehabilitation programmes
  • assisting the UN Country Team work

FAO works with NGOs on needs assessment and management and monitoring of relief work.

Bilateral donors are essential partners, funding over two thirds of FAO-assisted agricultural relief assessment missions and operations, and rehabilitation and development programmes and projects.
