Disaster risk reduction

Preparedness

Promoting disaster preparedness in member countries

FAO helps local governments and communities be better prepared in responding to sudden and slow-onset disasters.

Recent examples include:

  • exchange of good practices on hurricane preparedness for the agriculture sector in the Caribbean
  • supporting coordination and capacity strenghtening for disaster and drought preparedness in the Horn of Africa
  • support to the development of the Malawi Inter Agency Flood Contingency Plan (2007-2008)
