Lesson learning

FAO draws on lessons learnt through consistent and timely evaluation of projects, programmes and strategies.

Evaluation aims to help the Organization:

  • improve its relevance and effectiveness
  • strengthen institutional learning
  • provide performance accountability to stakeholders

Evaluations conducted in recent years include:

  • response to crisis in Southern Africa and FAO post-conflict programme in Afghanistan 2006
  • more effective response to desert locusts and their impact on food security, livelihoods and poverty
  • Impact Assessment Study of FAO inputs trade fairs in Mozambique 2006
  • Emergency Prevention System for Transboundary Animal and Plant Pests and Diseases (EMPRES) Central Region 2005
