Objective:

To support the livelihoods and food security of the most destitute drought affected farmers and small herders in the northeastern parts of the Syrian Arab Republic.

Key partners:

Ministry of Agriculture and Agrarian Reform, General Commission for Agricultural Scientific Research, General Organization for Seed Multiplication, Farmers Union, Agricultural Extension Directorate, and NGOs.

Beneficiaries reached:

3 874 households.

Activities implemented:
  •  Procured and distributed 554 tonnes of barley seed to 3 693 farming households.
  •  Procured and distributed 543 sheep with suckling lambs to 181 womenheaded households.
Impact:
  •  Each beneficiary farming households was able to produce 1.8 tonnes of barley on 2 ha of land.
  •  Farming households benefited from barley crop residue, which can be used as animal feed.
  •  Each beneficiary livestock holder was able to produce milk, wool, meat and breeding residue valued  at USD 893.7 per year.
