Objective:

To contribute to the restoration of the resilience of displaced farmers and their host communities as well as improve their food security for the 2013/2014 winter campaign. 

Key partners:

Stichting Nederlandse Vrijwilligers (SNV).

Beneficiaries reached:

1 300 vulnerable households (9 100 people), including 4 000 women, 3 500 men and 1 600 children. 

Activities implemented:
  • Carried out a background study. 
  • Identified 1 300 vulnerable beneficiary households.
  • Procured and distributed 36.5 tonnes of rice seeds and 80.3 tonnes of fertilizer to the 1 300 beneficiary households in five villages in the communes of Madiama and Pondori. 
  • Provided training on crop management techniques and nutrition. 
Impact:
  • Cultivated a total land area of 325 ha and obtained total production of 4 000 tonnes of rice, with an estimated value of USD 729 011. 
  • Trained and reinforced the capacities of 1 300 beneficiaries in terms of crop management production techniques. 
  • Trained and reinforced the capacities of 27 women heads of households on nutrition. 
  • Contributed to enhancing the resilience of the beneficiaries and resuming agricultural production and income thanks to the inputs distributed in collaboration with SNV.
