Objective:

To support the livelihoods and food security of the most destitute drought-affected small farmers and herders in the northeastern and Al Badia regions of Syria.

Key partners:

The Ministry of Agriculture and Agrarian Reform, General Commission for Seeds Multiplication and the Rural Women Empowerment Directorate.

Beneficiaries reached:

2 862 households.

Activities implemented:
  • Procured and distributed 403.05 tonnes of barley seed to 2 687 households.
  • Provided 526 ewes and 526 three-month-old lambs to 175 households.
Impact:
  • The farming input assistance provided to the targeted farmers enabled each beneficiary to produce 1 800 kg of barley grains valued at approximately SYP 12 600 and crop residues, worth approximately SYP 9 000.
  • As a result of the sheep distributed under the livestock component of the project, each beneficiary was able to earn USD 1133.7 for the year.
  • The inputs provided under the project improved the overall food security and livelihoods situation of the targeted beneficiaries in light of the recent drought and irregular rainfall.
