Objective:

To contribute to the improvement of food security and the increase of income of vulnerable populations.

Activities implemented:

The following activities were carried out:

  • Thanks to the distribution of cash vouchers and through seed fairs, beneficiaries were able to purchase tools (4 123 hoes, 4 526 machetes, 1 340 rakes, 1 726 shovels and 1 238 watering cans); 3 103 households were able to purchase 190.9 tonnes of crop seeds (0.39 tonnes of red kidney bean, 82.47 tonnes of groundnut, 78.67 tonnes of maize, 21.39 tonnes of paddy, 0.39 tonnes of pumpkin and 7.59 tonnes of sesame); and 2 266 households were able to purchase 56.65 kg of vegetable seeds.
  • 120 délégués techniques were provided with training on protection and preservation of seeds and food.
Impact:
  • Cultivated an area of 3 120 ha (89 ha of red kidney bean, 777 ha of groundnut, 777 ha of maize, 777 ha of paddy, 125 ha of pumpkin and 575 ha of sesame);
  • obtained a production of 2 282 tonnes, of which 71.2 tonnes of red kidney bean, 1 165 tonnes of groundnut, 544 tonnes of maize, 168 tonnes of paddy, 75 tonnes of pumpkin and 258.8 tonnes of sesame;
  • cultivated a total area of 11.3 ha of vegetable seeds with an estimated production of 42.12 tonnes; and
  • reinforced the agricultural skills (e.g. post harvest techniques on preserving food) of 120 délégués techniques.
  • Thanks to the seed fairs, local producers managed to sell their products for a total value of 80 000 000 F FCA (160 000 EUR), allowing them to meet their needs in terms of healthcare and education, as well as to purchase food.
  • The total value of the production obtained by the beneficiaries was of 228 685 991 F CFA (over 34 000 EUR).
