Objective:

To improve the food, nutrition and livelihood security of the marginalized landless poor and vulnerable women-headed households in four townships, namely Maungdaw, Buthidaung, Rathedaung and Sittwe, of Northern Rakhine State.

Key partners:

The Ministry of Agriculture and Irrigation, the Ministry of Livestock and Fisheries, Myanmar Agriculture Service, Livestock Breeding and Veterinary Department, Myanmar Livestock Federation and non-governmental organizations.

Beneficiaries reached:

6 100 households.

Activities implemented:
  •  Distributed 27 000 packets of vegetable seeds to 5 000 beneficiary households.
  •  Distributed 63 tonnes of mixed inorganic fertilizer to 1 100 beneficiary households.
  •  Provided 16 000 egg-laying hens to 1 600 women-headed households.
  •  Organized technical training programmes on improved agricultural production and good poultry  production practices following the distribution of inputs.
Impact:
  •  The provision of egg-laying hens increased the availability of eggs, which will be used for household  consumption and income generation.
  •  The provision of quality vegetable seeds resulted in the increased production of food, and  improved food and nutrition security at the household level.
