FAO and WFP Emergency and Resilience Directors’ mission to the Democratic Republic of the Congo

Jun 2019

In May 2019, the FAO and WFP Emergency and Resilience Directors, Dominique Burgeon and Margot van der Velden, respectively, visited project sites in Rutshuru (North Kivu) and Kabalo (Tanganyika) in the Democratic Republic of the Congo where a variety of joint activities were being implemented.

They started by visiting the Tongo food distribution site, where cassava community farming and nutrition-sensitive activities were being implemented. Here, they met with community leaders and smallholder farmers and saw how rural communities were adopting good farming techniques. In Kabalo, they participated in a meeting of the Twa-Bantu village peace-building committee. They also visited a mixed Twa-Bantu community mill and a Twa cassava community farm, as well as a site where beekeeping activities were being carried out.
