Youth and agriculture festival in the Central African Republic

On Saturday, 27 June 2015, FAO organized a festival on youth and agriculture in the Central African Republic at the Alliance française in Bangui. The overall objective was to create awareness on the role of youth in the agriculture sector. More specifically, topics addressed were the following: (i) the link between basic education, agriculture and nutrition; (ii) professional training for youth to build their capacities and integrate them in the workforce; (iii) the relation between peace, conflict, youth and agriculture; and (iv) traditional and mechanized agriculture.

The main activities carried out during the event included a series of presentations and debates by guest speakers, such as Mr Pierre Blaise Ango, international agronomist from the Republic of Cameroon and Mr Orphé Bamoy, and a show by the singer Bibi Tanga. Attendees at the event also included the FAO Representative in the Central African Republic, Mr Jean Alexandre Scaglia, the Ambassador of France, Mr Charles Malinas, the Director of the Allience française in Bangui, Mr François Grosjean and the international Central African-French football player, Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa.
