Agriculture serving public health

Feb 2014

Grande Anse is one of the departments in Haiti most exposed to malnutrition. Weakened by geographic isolation, the lack of infrastructure, recurrent natural disasters and soil erosion, the population in Grande Anse suffers from poor access to food despite rich local agro-biodiversity. Thanks to support from the European Union and FAO, the agriculture and health sectors joined forces to set up multisectoral strategies to improve public health through agriculture.
